Palos Community Consolidated School District 118 Mission and Education Goals

The Mission, Vision and Beliefs of Palos 118 focus on providing the best education possible for children. The Board of Education annually develops goals and action targets designed to accomplish the Mission.   There are five major district goals.   Action targets for these goals identify the working focus to accomplish the goals and to meet the continued expectation for excellence in our schools.

Goal I
To Maximize the Educational Potential of Every Student
to be a Successful Life-Long Learner

This goal represents the belief that each child can learn and that the Mission requires high expectations to develop this potential in each pupil.  Action targets focus on expanding the opportunities and programs for students to better accomplish this.

Action Target 1:  To review and assess the current reading curriculum in grades K-5 including student instructional materials.

Scope of Action Target:  This action target would focus on update and renewal of the K-5 reading program, its scope and sequence and alignment with the middle school reading/language arts program.

Action Target Support: Director of Teaching and Learning

Action Target 2:  To improve student writing skills through the use of the “Six Traits” instructional method in grades K-8

Scope of Action Target:  This action target focuses on the importance of writing providing pupils with techniques and experiences in developing personal writing skills.

Action Target Support:  Director of Teaching and Learning
